Meaningless Job Titles

Just an example of how little the job titles at SA mean...

After Charles resigned, he left with all our voice recorders. When Kelly and I checked the standby kits and discovered they were gone, we asked him to bring them back. He sent an email, stating he was going to transcribe the recordings from the last training session. I discussed this with Kelly and Gary, and we all agreed this was unnecessary. (Charles had already produced a comprehensive written review of the training session, based on the staff debriefing held right after the session. Kelly, Gary and I all agreed there had been a lot of clowning around during the training session and felt transcriptions of the recordings were unnecessary.) I sent Charles an email, stating the co-managers were all in agreement the transcriptions were unnecessary and asked him, again, to return the recorders. He replied with an email, stating he actually wasn't going to transcribe the recordings, but test and set the VCVA(Variable Control Voice Actuator) feature on them. I essentially told him we didn't need a highly-paid consultant for such a simple task.

If you ask me,

A: "I am going to transcribe the recordings and circulate the transcriptions."

changing to:

B: "I really meant I was going to set the VCVA settings."

translates to:

C: "I want more money, this month."

After I insisted he return the recorders, Charles threw a hissy fit to Saul, saying I was "trying to 'manage' him." A few weeks later, after I sent a report on the ramps and vehicles to Saul, Charles wrote me a nasty email stating that my department, (Mathew, Aschwin and me), was neglecting to report to him, as the other two managers were doing. Does this behavior add up to the proper definitions of consultants and managers? I think not. What kind of consultant determines and leads nearly all of a companies projects, and expects the company's managers to report to him? And, what kind of managers take orders from, and report to, a consultant?
