Response to What View Shall We Take of the SA Case Deficiencies?
FD put forth two possible views of the situation at Suspended Animation.
The first view considers that things might have been "okay" to begin with, but capability may have faded over a long period of inactivity. Personally, I don't think the conditions were ever acceptable. Platt's original contracts with the standby team members were sloppy; SA has never been able to guarantee trained medical personnel would show up for cases. Platt set about building an operating room, and started many other projects that have nothing to do with stabilization, with little-to-no effort put forth for providing competent "standby, stabilization and transport," what we all thought was the primary goal for SA.
I don't like the "guinea pig" theory, though I suppose it could be true. I don't know Kent, or Faloon, well enough to judge. The view I've come to believe in is, two individuals interested in their own cryopreservation, have invested a lot of money toward that goal, with the thought that the capabilities they might achieve could benefit others. It's possible, that having a lot of other business to attend to, and having their own limitations in regard to knowledge of existing medical equipment and procedures, Kent and Faloon have trusted the wrong person/people to lead these endeavors.
I think Faloon is so consumed by LEF, he trusted Kent, who in turn trusted Platt, to carry out their dreams at SA. Remember, Platt is an accomplished creator of fiction. He can be very charming and convincing, when he wants to be. Does this absolve Kent and Faloon from responsibility for the conditions at Suspended Animation? Absolutely not. Frankly, I find it almost impossible to understand how they cannot see how very little has been accomplished, in spite of the generous amounts of time and money spent. How can they even expect us to believe they are capable of providing what they have promised, when it is clear to see they cannot, simply by looking at what little we know about their recent case, and their staff members? Do Kent and Faloon not realize the absurdity of the payroll at SA? Four of these five people have been obscenely well-paid to carry out Platt's wishes and projects, nothing more. Is SA's search for a new manager, an admission that the two current managers are unqualified to lead that company? It's my opinion that Charles Platt has taken extreme advantage of Kent's and Faloon's trust, and I believe he will try to "help" them find a new manager that is in need of his "guidance," someone who will go along with all his suggested design and fabrication projects. Only time will tell, I suppose.
