I just found this on the CI website:

"Suspended Animation is working to refine the equipment and procedures that may help to minimize tissue damage so that subsequent cryopreservation can be optimized. As the company name suggests, the ultimate goal is whole body vitrification or even "Suspended Animation" through reversible cryopreservation.

The company is led by Saul Kent as CEO, with five full-time employees: A general manager with 15 years of experience in cryonics, a chief financial officer who has received standby training, an electromechanical engineer who has participated in field work, a biologist who also has 20 years of experience as a surgeon, and an office assistant who is available for field work. In addition the company has a highly experienced crafts person building equipment on a part-time basis, and is supporting research elsewhere into anti-ischemic medications. Paramedics and trained standby technicians are on-call on a 24-hour basis to assist in cases.

Suspended Animation is has adapted a building for its use in Boynton Beach, Florida -- a project which was completed in June, 2005. The company receives strong financial support from Bill Faloon and Saul Kent of the Life Extension Foundation. These men are committed to ensuring that Suspended Animation is well-equipped and capable of applying cryopreservation procedures based on constantly improving technology. Those who receive Suspended Animation procedures can be regarded as beneficiaries of cryonics clinical trials of state-of-the-art methods. The current protocols to be applied are detailed in Protocol for SA-CI Standby to be Performed for the Cryonics Institute by Suspended Animation."

MY COMMENT: This is old information. The "general manager with 15 years of experience" is undoubtedly Charles Platt. The chief financial officer is probably Aschwin, who is no longer at SA. I don't know who the electromechanical engineer or the biologist are, but they were gone from SA before I started working there, nearly a year ago. I hope Ben will update this page, soon, as it shouldn't be used to promote SA's services. I could rewrite it for him, but it wouldn't be pretty.

From: http://www.cryonics.org/SA/SA_CI_Announcement.html

"Suspended Animation, located in south Florida, is pursuing research and development to enhance standby procedures. Our assistance for participating members of CI will include:

Paramedics and other trained personnel who will travel to the bedside.
Medications, provided under contract with Critical Care Research, to mitigate ischemic injury
Mechanical cardiopulmonary support and ventilation via a custom-designed Michigan Instruments Thumper.
Rapid cooling in a newly modified portable ice bath.
Vascular access by a surgeon followed by washout with a transport solution
Immediate air transportation to the cryonics organization of which the patient is a member.
A choice of whole-body glycerolization or the new vitrification solution developed in-house by CI.
While we expect that future technology will enable cell repair, we also believe that severe damage caused by a prolonged period of warm ischemia may prevent repair under any imaginable scenario. Therefore we feel that prompt treatment after legal death is highly desirable.

CI members who wish to receive treatment through Suspended Animation will be required to execute additional paperwork, primarily to establish funding arrangements. Some prepayment will be required to guarantee standby deployment.

For further details, including copies of relevant documents, a schedule of fees, and a detailed protocol describing the procedures that Suspended Animation has established, please see the Cryonics Institute website: Click Here

To receive email updates every two to four weeks directly from Suspended Animation, describing our activities and our progress toward enhanced standby capability, please send your request to info@suspendedinc.com, stating the name of the cryonics organization of which you are a member."

MY COMMENT: I hope this last paragraph wasn't supposed to be about the news bulletins; SA clients/potential clients are lucky to get one of those every two to four MONTHS. Of course, this pales in comparison to the fact that they won't receive the care being promised, either. Note that the first line doesn't say "may" include, it says "will" include, and then goes on to promise paramedics and a surgeon.
